Discussion and prediction of Social Media Trends expected for 2013 dominated the recent Social Media Marketing World 2013 conference in San Diego. Key take-away’s were:
- No surprise here — businesses are increasingly convinced of the importance of social media to their marketing efforts. In Social Media Examiner‘s most recent survey, only 5% disagreed 49% strongly agreed and 37% agreed.
- Marketers will put more emphasis on YouTube. In fact, 69% of marketers plan to increase their YouTube activity in 2013! YouTube is second only to Google in its search power and capabilities. Plus, the ease of using iPhone’s and Droids to film short videos makes it easier to produce short quality films for YouTube and the other video platforms.
- According Mike Stelzner, Social Media Examiner, podcasting will dramatically increase! A big reason for this is mobile. You can easily download or stream podcasts on your mobile device and listen in your car, at the gym, anywhere! In addition, car companies (Ford and BMW) are incorporating “in-dash apps for podcasts” in their new cars.
- Content marketing surpassed both SEO and social media as the key focus last year, and continues to be on the upswing. In fact the term most heard by me during the conference was Content Marketing. Interestingly, I think I may have heard “SEO” one time. Take a look at the graph below that was supplied by Lee Odden in his presentation.
