03 Apr How to Build Your Social Media Presence Without Spending Your Life Online!
Use Facebook lists to organize your friends. Facebook has already created some lists to get you started, such as Close Friends, Acquaintances, Restricted, SMART Lists, and Custom Lists!
You see your lists on the left hand side of your newsfeed. To monitor the friends in a particular list, just click on that list and your newsfeed only shows those friends’ posts.
Smart lists are lists that update automatically based on info you have in common with select friends, like a school, job or city. If you live in Tucson, a smart list is automatically created based on all friends that live within 50 miles of Tucson. You can change the distance manually and you can add or delete people manually.
Custom lists are lists that you create. For example, I have a SMART Group List that I created that includes all SMART Group members. At least twice a day I can click on this list and see all of the activity from these friends. This makes it easier for me to comment and interact with their posts.
Too add friends to a list, hover over the Friends button at the top of their profile (Michael Gray’s timeline example above) and selecting from the list names that appear. If you don’t see the name of the list you’re looking for, click the option to show all of your lists. Remove friends by doing the same thing and unclicking the list name.
The important thing is to USE YOUR LISTS! Remember that Facebook uses the Edgerank algorithm to select what they think you want to see on your timeline. Using your lists puts you in control and saves you time!
Next time we’ll talk about Twitter Lists. Please send questions and comments!
