10 Oct Someone Told Me I Had to do Social Media
I get this phone call all the time. “My friend, cousin, brother (insert name here) told me I have to do social media”.
First of all, no one has to do social media. If you are retiring in the next 5 years or so you can probably make it without getting in. If you don’t care about staying connected to your customers just and keeping your business viable then ignore social media. For the rest of us, there is not an option so why not be great at it!
The “they told me I had to” thought process creates another dynamic that I love. Social media is not a quick return process and most will bail before seeing success. I tell my clients all the time, stay with it any eventually most will quit and leave you standing tall in your industry. People who feel forced to do social media, do not have the determination to finish strong. That leaves those committed few “Tortoises” to collect the spoils when all the “Hares” are napping.
So, the next time Otis, Bobby, Billy or whomever tells you you have to do social media you can tell them to get stuffed. You do not have to do anything. Failure is an option and you have every right to choose it. The rest of us however will be plodding along, meeting new people, building trusted relationships and having fun being great at Social Media Marketing.
P.S., I know if you don’t like social media your probably not online reading this. So Otis, Bobby, & Billy please print it out and share it with your friends. 😉
