12 Oct Seth Godin: Is Google Jumping the Shark?
Seth Godin asked in his Oct 12, 2013 blog post whether Google is “jumping the shark” by cheapening its product (my words). Seth points out the danger that advertising goals to raise net income for shareholders could override the original purpose and value of Google as a product. It appears that Google may be following Facebook’s lead by using people’s publicly posted endorsements on social media to sell advertising. It’s what Facebook has already been doing, i.e. examples are the paid posts that you see in your timeline. You see these paid posts (advertisement) every time you click onto your Facebook home page.
